MedShort.ca is an independent tool that helps Canadians track drug shortages and discontinuations across the country.
Why We Built This
Canada reports thousands of drug shortages every year — some resolved quickly, others lasting months. For patients managing chronic conditions, caregivers, and healthcare professionals, staying informed about these shortages can be difficult. The official source, Health Canada's Health Product Shortages database, is comprehensive but built for regulatory reporting, not everyday use.
MedShort.ca makes this information easier to search, track, and act on. Search any medication by name or DIN, see its current shortage status, and save the drugs you care about to get notified as soon as our daily check detects a change.
Where Our Data Comes From
All shortage and discontinuation data is sourced directly from Health Canada via the official Health Product Shortages Canada API. We update our records regularly to reflect the latest reports.

MedShort.ca is an independent, unofficial tracking tool. We are not affiliated with Health Canada or any government agency, and we do not provide medical advice. How We Write and Review Our Guides
Our guides are written and maintained by the MedShort Editorial Team, drawing directly on Health Canada's official shortage and drug product data and public regulatory guidance — the same sources linked at the bottom of every guide. They are not written or reviewed by a licensed pharmacist or physician, and are not a substitute for individual medical advice.
Each guide shows when it was first published and when it was last checked against current data. We revisit guides periodically and update them when Health Canada's guidance or our own data changes; if you spot something outdated, let us know at the address below.
